The Cascade II:1024 camera utilizes a back-illuminated, frame-transfer EMCCD that is thermoelectrically cooled to -60°C without the use of any type of liquid. The combination of the sensor's small pixel size (13 x 13 microns) and large imaging format (1024 x 1024 pixels) facilitates the effective use of short exposure times with the ability to cover a greater amount of real estate on
the microscope slide, thus allowing researchers to gather more data per acquisition.
The Cascade® II platform and offers >92% peak quantum efficiency, a megapixel format, and true 16-bit dynamic range.
Thanks to exclusive vacuum technology so robust it carries a lifetime guarantee, the state-of-the-art camera delivers the deepest thermoelectric air cooling available for an EMCCD-based platform. Its stainless-steel vacuum chamber (with all-metal seals) houses an e2v CCD201 - the same high-QE, back-illuminated, frame-transfer detector used in our immensely popular Cascade:512B camera.
Two independent readout amplifiers allow the Cascade II:1024 to be operated either as a high-performance EMCCD camera (with on-chip multiplication gain) for unparalleled low-light-level sensitivity or as a traditional, non-electron-multiplying CCD camera for the most precise measurement of small signal variations.
