Buehler EcoMet 30 Manual Grinder Polisher for Metallographic Sample Preparation

The Buehler EcoMet 30 is a manual grinder polisher built for low-volume metallographic sample preparation. Available in single or dual platen configurations, it handles samples of any size on 8″, 10″, or 12″ (203–305mm) platens — giving labs a reliable, straightforward polishing machine without the complexity of programmable systems.

EcoMet30 Features & Benefits

The EcoMet 30 is designed for labs that need a dependable manual grinding and polishing machine with minimal setup and maximum flexibility across sample types. All content is visible by default — no touchscreen or stored programs required.

  • Platen compatibility: Accepts 8″, 10″, and 12″ (203–305mm) platens — select size to match sample dimensions and control grinding disc and polishing cloth cost per run
  • Speed control: Simple dial control panel sets platen speed — easy to operate, no programming required
  • Platen removal: Tool-free platen removal for fast media changeover between grinding and polishing steps
  • Rinse and spin: Integrated rinse and spin feature cleans the platen and polishing bowl between runs — reduces cross-contamination between steps
  • Footprint: Compact dimensions allow multiple EcoMet 30 units to be deployed side by side in shared labs or teaching environments
  • Consumables: Compatible with the full range of Buehler polishing cloths, grinding discs, silicon carbide papers, and specimen holders

EcoMet 30 Single vs Twin: Which Configuration Is Right for Your Lab?

The EcoMet 30 is available in two configurations. The choice comes down to lab workflow and user count.

EcoMet 30 Single — choose this if:

  • One operator runs samples sequentially through grinding and polishing steps on a single platen
  • Lab space is limited
  • Sample volume is low and a single-station workflow is sufficient

EcoMet 30 Twin — choose this if:

  • Multiple operators share the machine simultaneously — each platen operates independently
  • Workflow requires grinding and polishing to run in parallel — one platen on SiC paper, one on polishing cloth
  • The double bowl on the twin version enables fast setup of multi-step processes without swapping media between each step
  • Higher throughput is needed without stepping up to a semi-automatic system
