Buehler Metallographic Mounting Press — Hot Or Cold Mounting Systems

Proper sample mounting is the foundation of accurate metallographic analysis. Without a consistent uniform mount edge retention suffers, samples shift during grinding, and polishing results become unreliable. Buehler’s mounting systems — the SimpliMet 4000 hot mounting press and the SimpliVac cold mounting vacuum system — are designed to solve exactly these problems.

Features

SimpliMet 4000 — Compression Hot Mounting Press

The SimpliMet 4000 is Buehler’s fastest compression hot mounting press — designed for 24/7 operation in high-volume metallographic labs. It applies controlled heat and pressure to cure thermoplastic or thermoset resins around the sample, producing consistent, high-quality mounts every cycle.

Key Features

  • Fast cycle times: Shortest cycle times in its class — designed for maximum throughput without sacrificing mount quality
  • Duplex function: Two-position mounting allows simultaneous heating and cooling, further reducing cycle time
  • Programmable methods: Store and recall mounting parameters for different resins and sample types — reduces setup time and operator error
  • User-focused design: Clear touchscreen interface with intuitive controls. Minimal training required.
  • Mounting clips compatible: Works with standard mounting clips for edge retention and small specimen support

SimpliVac — Advanced Cold Mounting Vacuum System

The SimpliVac is Buehler’s vacuum-assisted cold mounting system. It draws air out of the mounting chamber before introducing liquid resin, allowing the epoxy to fully penetrate porous or complex sample structures. This makes it the preferred cold mounting system for porous metals, ceramics, welds, and samples where edge retention under a thin coating is critical.

Cold Mounting Resin Options

The SimpliVac is compatible with a range of Buehler cold mounting resins, each suited to different applications

  • Epoxies featuring:
    • low shrinkage for delicate samples
    • low viscosity for pore penetration
    • room temp or oven curing for best flexibility
    • Great hardness values for best polishing of all materials
    • Superior clarity and transparency
  • Acrylics featuring:
    • Fast cure saving time
    • Excellent edge retention for polishing coatings
    • Low shrinkage for delicate samples
    • low viscosity for pour penetration
    • Great hardness values for best polishing of all materials
    • Superior clarity and transparency

Compares favorably to ultra epoxy , uv curing resin, ultraviolet resin , uv curable resin, & glass epoxy.
