Hardness Testing Solutions: Wilson Rockwell, Vickers, Knoop & Brinell Testers
JH Technologies is an authorized Wilson/Buehler dealer supplying complete hardness testing solutions for quality control, R&D, and production laboratories. Our range covers all four principal indentation hardness testing methods — Rockwell, Vickers, Knoop, and Brinell — with instruments, certified test blocks, and DiaMet automation software to meet ASTM and ISO requirements across the full load range.
Hardness Testing Methods
Three indentation methods cover the majority of lab and production requirements. Method selection depends on material type, required load range, and whether a test standard specifies a scale:
- Rockwell (HR): direct depth-of-penetration readout — no optical measurement required. Fast, high-throughput, and the default method for through-hardened steel, tool steel, and non-ferrous metals in production environments. Scales include HRC, HRB, HRA, and superficial.
- Vickers (HV) and Knoop (HK): optical measurement of a diamond indentation from 0.01kgf (microhardness) to 50kgf (macro). Standard for coatings, case-hardened layers, welds, heat-affected zones, and features too small for Rockwell.
- Brinell (HB): large ball indenter under high load (62.5–3000kgf). Standard for castings, forgings, and coarse-grained structural steel where microstructural variation makes small indenters unreliable.

Our Wilson Hardness Testing Products
Wilson Rockwell Hardness Testers
The Wilson Rockwell series provides fast, direct-reading hardness testing across the full Rockwell scale range — HRC, HRB, HRA, and superficial scales. Designed for high-throughput QC environments, these testers comply with ASTM E18 and ISO 6508. Available in standard and universal configurations.
Wilson Vickers, Knoop & Brinell Hardness Testers
The Wilson VH1102/VH1202 cover micro Vickers and Knoop testing from 0.01 to 2kgf for coatings, case depth, and microstructural analysis. The VH1150 extends to 50kgf for macro Vickers applications. The BH3000 Brinell tester covers 62.5 to 3000kgf for castings and forgings. All models are DiaMet compatible.
Wilson Universal Hardness testers
The Wilson Universal Hardness Tester is a versatile hardness tester that combines Rockwell, Brinell, and Vickers testing in a single system. Designed for accuracy, repeatability, and ease of use, it performs hardness measurements in compliance with ASTM E18, E10, and E92 standards. Ideal for quality control, production, and research applications, it delivers reliable results across a wide range of materials.
DiaMet Hardness Testing Software
DiaMet automates Vickers and Brinell hardness testing — traverse testing for case depth measurement, hardness mapping across weld cross-sections, automated indentation patterns, and image-based measurement with statistical reporting. Compatible with VH1102, VH1202, VH1150, and BH3000. Required for ASTM E384 case depth testing.
Wilson Certified Hardness Test Blocks
Wilson certified test blocks are NIST-traceable reference standards for periodic verification of Rockwell, Vickers, and Brinell hardness testers. Available across all standard scales and hardness levels. Required for quality management systems operating to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and AS9100.
